Written Reflections from Program Participants

Handwritten notes on lined paper discussing managing anger and calming techniques.

“Today I learned different ways to calm/release my anger without harming or insulting another person.

I realized that there were multiple ways to release your anger and also different ways to calm yourself.

Today I will tell my family especially my little brother about this program.” - Program Participant

Pink sheet with handwritten notes outlining differences between a machine and teach response, including points about realization and usage.

“I learned the difference between a proactive and a reactive response.

I realized your response would be better in a proactive way even if it hurts you to say it that way.

I will try to use this way.”

Why This Matters

When young people feel a sense of belonging, they are more likely to engage in school, build healthy relationships, and contribute positively to their communities.

When youth develop confidence and emotional awareness, they are better equipped to navigate challenges, advocate for themselves, and pursue opportunities that align with their goals.

For Spanish-speaking immigrant and first-generation youth, these outcomes are especially important. By creating spaces where young people feel seen, valued, and connected to their identity, we help foster the next generation of leaders, changemakers, and community builders.

Investing in youth wellbeing today strengthens families, schools, workplaces, and communities tomorrow. When young people thrive, communities thrive alongside them.
